The Professional Development (PD) Grant has
been established to provide opportunities for members to access financial
assistance to host workshops, seminars, etc for groups of recreation practitioners and volunteers.
These professional development opportunities are to enhance the skills
and knowledge of those working in the field of recreation. Applicants must be a member of Recreation Manitoba. These are not personal professional development grants. For more information download the Application Guide and Form.
Since 2008 the Recreation Professionals of the Interlake and Eastman regions, Recreation Manitoba, the Interlake Recreation Practioners Association (IRPA), and Recreation and Regional Services have partnered to support the opportunity for professional development in the field of recreation. In the past, this often involved a two-day conference however this year’s approach was different. Identifying central locations to both regions, reducing cost and time demands on Recreation Professionals and increasing convenience were all considered by the organizing committee to help increase attendance. Data from the previous year’s event was used to help inform the agenda and with the help and support of Rec Manitoba and the Interlake Recreation Practioners Association, a series of 3 Professional Development days was organized.
The 3 PD Days had an average attendance of 25 attendees per day. Attendees included Recreation Professionals, Facility Managers, and Leadership from various communities. Speakers and topics included:
Throughout the course of the PD events, not only were Recreation Professionals able to learn more about their interests and practice, but they were also able to connect, network and collaborate with peers and colleagues at a reasonable cost of $10 per day (which also included lunch!). While the committee is still in the process of evaluating the 2017/2018 year’s events, we will all look forward to the feedback and to seeing what this great partnership will yield for the 2019/2020 year.
Thank you to Rec Manitoba, Interlake Recreation Practioners Association, the IERP Planning Committee, and attendees for your contributions.
